Recalling Bloomfield football team that beat the 'streak' 30 years ago
When opening to the football page of the Bloomfield High School yearbook, the headline at the top is clear:
"The Streak is Snapped, the Pride is Back."
Three decades later, the words continue to resonate. Last week Chet Parlavecchio didn't realize the date. But when reminded it was 30 years ago that his Bloomfield Bengals football team snapped a game winless streak, in Parlavecchio's second year as head coach, he couldn't help but chuckle.
"Thirty years, really?" said Parlavecchio. "Think about that. The guys on that team are now in their late 40s, many with kids of their own. Where did the time go?"
Good question. Parlavecchio's son, Chet Jr., who is now the football coach at New Providence, was an infant when Bloomfield defeated Paramus Catholic, , on Oct. 1, Jean and Chet Parlavecchio's daughter, Nicole, who was married last summer, wasn't born yet.
