The Hon. Xavier L. Suarez is a Visiting Scholar at the FIU College of Law. He served as the Mayor of the City of Miami twice, from 1985 to 1993 and again from 1997 to 1998, and has held numerous other positions in local government. He is a practicing attorney in the areas of litigation, health care law, and corporate law, international, real estate, labor, and intellectual property. Suarez is an accomplished writer, having authored numerous articles and books on various topics, including anthropology and the environment. He has received numerous awards and has been actively involved in several prestigious organizations and institutions. Suarez holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School, a Master of Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University. He is of counsel at Greenspoon Marder LLP. As a Visiting Scholar at the Environment, Law, and Economics Initiative of FIU College of Law, Suarez brings innovative ideas and insights on environmental challenges facing the South Florida community, helping to position FIU at the forefront of environment, law, economics and public policy.
